At that time it wouldn't be many three-masters[S]4[S] we used to see and I was interested in that stuff. The Captain was on deck --- Captain Sam Nosewor- thy; I didn't know him just the same.[S]5[S] He said he was short of hands --- couldn't get a crew. I said "Captain, what about a _berth"[S]6[S]_ --- this was about the twenty eight of October; she was going to Sydney[S]7[S] for a load of coal; she was in the coal run see.
