THE YOUNGSTERS. FE. I suppose some cases, yes. . threaten the youngsters, years ago when you were a.growin' up? F. Oh yeah! They get it see! (ie get a good hiding etc). If they'd do anything at all out o' they way he had to get _the lacin'_ [_PT_] and that was IT. (Nowadays?) he's let off an' he knows it. That's what difference is into it. FE. What would you get _the lacin_ [_PT_] (with)? What WOULD they have, a stick or.? F. Oh, a stick or whatever he'd get hold to! Them old fellers was(n't) .wasn't particul- ar what they'd get hold to! FE. And wh(at).how would a pa(rent).xxx what would the parents threaten. ? F. Mostly always (have??) a stick, you know. Not .not a big stick for. now for to break bones.
