It was used for this purpose almost exclusively during 1930s. Another cargo carried in this boat was lumber- it too was carried to Curling. It was towed by one or more of the fishing boats - depending upon the load being transported or the speed required. A towing cable was attached to one end for purpose of towing. This was the only thing that made one end resemble a stern. This type of boat has not been used in Gillams since early 1940s.
