seal n While at Englee, 1954, . . . a man . . . who always wore a big glove to cover up a useless hand. This hand was very ugly looking, since the flesh seemed to be dried up. . . . I learned that he had what people call a "seal hand". He had cut a finger while pelting a seal and had gotten it infected, with the result that he lost use of the hand. . . . I have also heard this type of thing described as a "seal hair hand." . . . I have heard of several cases of"seal haired fingers", or jus "seal finger". . . .
