Summary:komatik n families from one place to another in these frail boats. I found one man employed in making a sledge. It was about twenty feet long by fourteen inches broad, the sides being formed of two-inch plank about a foot deep; the under- edges are shod with whalebone a quarter of an inch thick, fastened on with pegs made out of the teeth of the walrus. Across the upper edges are placed boards close together, and secured to the sides by means of strips of seal-skin. This sledge is called by the Esquimaux a "commeteck."
