| Summary: | jam v The following incident took place about one hundred years ago in Hant's Harbour. A _jam-block_ is a wooden block specially designed for chopping rails. There is a hole in the block and the stick being cut is put in this hole. One old fellow stole another man's jam-block. The man suspected who the theif was but had no proof. Some time after the theft, both men were present at a church meeting. In the midst of a discussion on church affairs, the suspected theif was given to remark. "I wouldn't be a stumbling block in anyone's way." The one from whom the jam-block was stolen saw his opportunity. "No, and I wouldn't like to be a jam-block in your way!" he hastily replied.
