Of course there were no stick pins, they were _he'd peens_" in Cape La Hune and in other parts of the SouthWest Coast. [my instructor in this course [reverse] tells me that he has never heard the term "stick pin" to mean a pin with a head. To him it is simply a "pin". You had to have some way of distinguishing between a safety pin and a stick pin, so that is probably why we have to two terms. From the age of around 11 when I moved to Port Aux Basques I heard the term "stick pin" for the pin with the head.
