It was used by the children to slide on. My uncle and his friends used to make them when they were children. First, a barrel stave was used as the main part. It was [reverse] usually smooth so it slid over the snow very swiftly. A hole was drilled into the stave and a stick was put up through it. Next, a second stick was nailed across the top of this first stick in a T-fashion. The occupant of the slide would sit on the top stick and rest his feet on the barrel stave. The children spent many happy hours sliding on thier nansernies. JH 176 Used I Used I Not used NEWFOUNDLAND FOLKLORE SURVEY Reverse of card at H_ 13332.
