| Summary: | horse n The alien of all the seal species is the horsehead. Many people in Newfoundland have never seen or heard tell of one. I have only seen one such seal in many years at the seal hunt. In fact, I could not name it, until an old Port aux Basques seal hunter named it for me.It has a long head exactly like a horse, and the nails on its flippers are more than twice as big as those of a harp seal. The hair on its body is more than twice as long as that of a harp or hood. They pup about the middle of February, and have never been known or seen in large numbers.
