Description
Summary:home Copyen This was a sort of pastime in the spring when the harbour ice was beginning to break up. We would go on the ice jumping from one pan of ice to the other. There would be the main pan which -> you started out from, we called it, the home pan. This sheet of ice could float a person or more, but the pans you jumped from one to another could not float you. In order to go copyen one had to be prepared to be on the move all the time because of the fact that the small pieces could not float you. It was a very dangerous business. If you were jumping from one big pan of ice to another it was not considered copyen but just walking on the ice,it was/only copyen where there was danger.
