| Summary: | flummy n When I taught in North West River, I heard of a concoction made up by trappers called a 'flummedum'. Many of the men we trappers and stayed in 'tilts' or rough cabins in the woods for weeks at a time. They made their own meals and one was a mixture of flour, salt, butter and sugar that they called 'flummedum'. The original 'flummedum' was mixed in the morning before the trapper went out to his trapline. He rolled it up in [Reverse] a long string, wrapped it around the funnel of hi stove , banked the fire, and left the flummedum to bake. Today the term is used to poke fun an any unusual or strange - tasting meal. Particularly so, if it doesn't turn out too good.
