So you.in.in order of dislike, let's put dogs. R. Then insects. JW. .insects, in that (sense), would it, really? R. Yes. I.I don't know. Insects [PT] probably more so, especially out in the country. JW. Mm. R. And of course this wasn't helped by one.one summer out in our country place, my mother, myself, an' my brother - my father was gone into town to work - an' we heard this thump on the front verandah. And we went out in the living room, we smelt this queer smell, and here were .the screen door didn't fit so well then - we have a.a sun-porch on now so we wouldn't get that problem, but the screen door didn't fit very well an' there was an opening at the bottom. An' on the verandah, the.verandah was painted yellow, and it was all black. An' this was just a cloud, you know, like the locusts in the Bible, this was a cloud of of.what we call '_fish-flies_'. [PT] I don't know what the term is, but horrible things like a.like a.a wasp, about three times the length of a wasp. And they either secr(ete).they must secrete some sort of terribly smelling stuff. Anyhow these.these had crawled in the liv- ing room, you know. We went around all day swatting these things. An' they just suddenly fell from the sky, you know; you could hear it. We were. happened to be sitting down quiet at the time. JW. Mm. Plot! Yeah. R. And you could hear the plop! 'Twas just like a whole cloudful came. And so of course this just made the country a little bit worse, you know! Every night I had to get the bed searched out with a.with a.with the flashlight, you know, before I'd go in the room. /There was never [reverse] any insects [PT] in there, but I was terrified. JW. Mm. It's a strange feeling anyhow. R. I don't know what caused it, but I just can't get rid of it, you know.
