Summary:ferrying When the ice starts to break up into pans you'll see all the youngsters "ferrying." The kids get a long stick and each one gets on a pan of ice (the old people around home call them bally-caters) and pushes it around the water with the stick. There's an inlet from the harbour. called Squid Holes, and that's where most of the kids from our side of the harbour go . . . . The water is only 1 1/2 - 2 feet deep, so it's not dangerous.
