Description
Summary:FPU By November 1911 there were more than 12,500 dues-paying FPU members, organized into 116 local and four district councils; the _Advocate_, not the product of the Union Publishing Company, had reached a weekly paid circulation of over six thousand; and the co-operative movement, now the Union Trading Company, was firmly established and prosper- ing, with four new outport cash stores already in operation. Apart from these tangible results, however, it is at least as important to convey some idea of the union 's emotional and psychological impact. For the first time a substantial body of outport people were awakened to effective class- consciousness, prodded and spurred by the tireless Coaker, who again and again hammered home a single point: 'You are the producers.'
