Our aim was to drive straight on and try and reach Lowlands for the night. For this reason we kept well out on to the middle of the bay and set a course by means of a pocket compass. Long before we had covered the long weary (stem) of sixty miles, we regretted our decision and were sorely tempted to make for the shelter of the land.
