And something on their head? M.White veil,and something white.Yeah. 'Tis very. JW. Yeah! An' what sort of things would they do to frighten people? You mentioned this thing:you would.they would find a courting couple and they might follow them. M. Mm-mm. [ie yes] . JW. What other.and .? M. I think that the big thing they would do to frighten people well, actually they wouldn't do anything! That would be it - you just. like,you know,just. JW. To see 'em! M. .just to see a figure like that. An' he was supposed to represent.well, _somebody who had_ _just come from the grave_ [PT] or some domain! JW And would he make any sound or would he speak.? M. No. He would never make any noises. JW. And would he gesticulate or run? How.how.how fast would he move? How would he move? M. No. He just moved very very slowly unless he was probably near people an' then he would go -> very fast. But it is quite.quite true about _the Dressups_ [PT]. [PT] in Gree(nspond).in Greenspond because so many people have seen them and so many people have .commented on them, and so many people were afraid o' them. JW. Roughly how old was the man who was stripped that time? M. Well I dont really know, but I should think he was in his forties, because that was.tis a long time ago [reverse] 'Tis over forty years ago. Mr Carter oft a told us about.about it,you know. He was rather a brave man.He had been in the.in the.in the War previous to that and. JW. So he wouldn't mind.? M. .so he wouldn't mind,and he said that for the sake of people around the harbour that he was goin' to find out that night who _the Dressup_ [PT] [PT] really was! JW. You've never heard parents frighten children with _the Dressup_ then? M. No.I never heard that. JW. Or with _ghosts,_ in a threatening way? M. But I don't know about _ghosts_ [PT]. JW. You ...
