This is called _cutting off_ the linnet and it allows the boat to slide along the spanline toward the back of the trap, away from the shore. _Cutting off_ is where the expert is required at either end of the boat. If the _cut_ linnet is not handled properly a loop can be let down and the fish lost. Some more linnet is hauled up and some more _cut off_ and then the fish can be seen and the skipper and crew begin to (surmise.) DNE-cit WK's penciling error? WK?
