Description
Summary:crust _Folk belief- childlore_ It is often difficult to get a child to eat certain articles of food. I remember when my mother would bake home made bread we would always like to eat a slice of bread still hot coated with molasses. The first slice cut off a loaf (other end) was known as the crust (_crus'_). For some reison none of the [PT]JW [reverse] children wanted to eat the crust. If my father saw this he would probably take the crst and eat it himself, but I have often heard him say "Crus' bred makes you sing". This was an attempt to get us to eat it The phrase was also used when children ate the center of a piece of toast and refused to eat the outside crust. It worked sometimes on some children, but mostly I believe it was a phrase remembered from bygone days and I have never heard it used in the last ten years or so. Yes DICT CEN.
