| Summary: | copper n _"Copperheads"_ and Stouts These are two types of flys on the Northern Peninsula. Both are characterized by their disticntive brassy or copper color. They differ, however, in number, size and shape. The copperhead is much more more plentiful than the stout. The copperhead is approximately one half the size of the stout and is similar to this in shape and size [image] while the stout has longer narrower wings like this [image] [OVER] [reverse] The bite of both is rather painful and leaves a large lump on the skin. One superstion or tale of these fleas is that after the first thunderstorm of late August or September, they will not emerge or be seen again until the next summer. While many people consider this an old wives tale, I have seen it happen and believe it is true. Dwight Gibbons The only name for it down home.
