They are taken with _Capeline_ sayns which cost from 18 to 20 pounds. When that small fish is in the greatest plenty near the shore, they use _cast-nets_ which cost from 15 to 17 shillings. These are cylindrical nets open at both ends the upper end being gathered by a running ball; the catcher holding the upper end in his mouth, opens this lower as wide as possible with his hands, and throws it over the shoal of capeline; then draws is up quickly by the upper end with his hands, [over] [reverse] the balls forming a bottom to the noe not which makes it impossible to the capelin to escape. It is very frequently so full that it requires all a man's strength to drag it up into the skiff. PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G.M.
