This would be about eighteen inches square. There would be two strings on the upper part of this breast piece and these string would be used to tie this part of the habit around the neck. On this breast-piece the letters I.H.S. would be woven or placed. This piece of clothing would be trimmed with wide white silk ribbon. Above the initials I.H.S. would be a white cross& Beneath the letters was a white heart. Another piece of clothing was a face covering. This would be the sa same colour as the habit, and would be placed over the face of the corpse before the coffin was close.
