This is one of the few areas of Nfld where the Lapland Longspur is common enough to be noticed by the average person. 'It is a common spring and fall migrant and often fed in old potato[-]e[-] gardens and I often heard people in L'Anse-aux-Meadows call them "Biffs". The people in L'Anse-aux-Meadows assured me that it was a well known name in the adjacent communities named above'. See cited quotation. _DNE_ _erratum_ DNE Sup G. M.
