Description
Summary:biff n 'Biff is the name given to a bird, officially named the Lapland Longspur (_Calcarius lapponicus_) by long time residents of communities at the extreme northern tip of the Northern Peninsula, L'A_nse-aux-Meadows, Ship Cove, Straitsview and probably other nearby communities. This is one of the few areas of Nfld where the Lapland Longspur is common enough to be noticed by the average person. 'It is a common spring and fall migrant and often fed in old potato[-]e[-] gardens and I often heard people in L'Anse-aux-Meadows call them "Biffs". The people in L'Anse-aux-Meadows assured me that it was a well known name in the adjacent communities named above'. See cited quotation. _DNE_ _erratum_ DNE Sup G. M.
