This is an Italian version of an engraving depicting the operation of the Newfoundland fishery in the early eighteenth century. There are also English and French versions. - - This engraving provides a pictorial, probably first-hand, account of the various duties and responsibilities inherent in the production of salted cod fish between the time it was caught and the time it was ready for the European market. It should be of interest to a wide range of researchers: those studying the conduct of the fishery in the early eighteenth century; the division of labour; the types of equipment used; engraving techniques; or just as a work of art.
