Description
Summary:Hiller's Ph.D. thesis focuses on the period of Newfoundland's political history from 1874, when C. F. Bennett's anti-confederate party was defeated by Frederic Carter's Conservatives, to the election of Robert Bond's Liberals in 1900. Hiller found there was a particular lack of material written about this significant this period in Newfoundland's history; the Newfoundland Railway, Bait Act, and colonial politics, as well as the considerable internal political strife experienced in Newfoundland during the period are all topics Hiller discusses at length. Dissertation submitted for the degree of Ph.D., University of Cambridge, 1971. Bibliography: leaves 374-382.
