Written by his son-in-law, this book consists of a biography, a collection of tributes and letters, a list of electoral results for Carmichael's Pictou County riding, and a list of ships constructed in Carmichael's New Glasgow home town. It also includes a collection of sea tales, although they are not connected to Carmichael; these include the story of the "Wreck of the Micmac" off the coast of Cape Pine, Newfoundland (p. 162-9 : ill.).
