Harnum, Jeremy McCarthy, Michael (1949-); McCarthy, Velita (1951-) "Mick McCarthy was born on Woods Island in Bay of Islands to Gertrude and Ignatius McCarthy. He moved Benoit’s Cove with his family when Woods Island was resettled in the 1960s. He married Velita Hackett in 1972 and they had one daughter, Stephanie. Mick was a fisherman and fished for lobster, crab, halibut and cod from the Bay of Islands. He retired from the fishery in 2015, but continues to build dories and do carpentry work. Mick has built more than seventy dories. Velita McCarthy (Hackett) was born on Woods Island to Michael and Bridget Hackett. She moved to Benoit’s Cove with her family when Woods Island was resettled in the 1960s. She married Michael (Mick) McCarthy in 1972 and they had one daughter, Stephanie. Velita worked as a secretary with the Parish and later fished with Mick for lobster, crab, halibut and cod.
