Braye, Crystal McCarthy, Velita (1951-) Velita McCarthy (Hackett) was born on Woods Island to Michael and Bridget Hackett. She moved to Benoit’s Cove with her family when Woods Island was resettled in the 1960s. She married Michael (Mick) McCarthy in 1972 and they had one daughter, Stephanie. Velita worked as a secretary with the Parish and later fished with Mick for lobster, crab, halibut and cod.
