Braye, Crystal Petten, Vernon (1935-) Vernon Petten was born in 1935 in Hibb's Cove, Port de Grave. He started fishing full-time at the age of fourteen. In 1955 Vernon began construction on his first longliner, the same year he married Shirley Badcock of Bay Roberts. Over his career as a fisherman, Vernon has fished for cod, crab, tuna, herring and other species. He has built ten longliners and a number of flats.
