The symposium was created and produced by Stephanie McKenzie and Shoshannah Ganz and the series inaugurated by McKenzie and Ganz in 2012. The first event of the symposium took place on October 14, the day before Dionne Brand read in Corner Brook, NL at Jennifer’s Barroom (on Oct. 14, five Grenfell students from Shoshannah Ganz and Stephanie McKenzie’s literature classes at Grenfell presented on Brand’s poetry and prose, and the NFB film Listening for Something: Adrienne Rich and Dionne Brand in Conversation was shown). This second and final event of the symposium, The Uses of Literature: The Poetry of Dionne Brand, held on Nov. 15, is a lecture given by Jamaican-Canadian poet Pamela Mordecai about Dionne Brand’s poetry within a discussion about poetry by Caribbean women and Caribbean women poets now living in Canada. The lecture is followed by a question and answer period between Mordecai and the Grenfell/Corner Brook audience. Produced by Stephanie McKenzie and Shoshannah Ganz, Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Text Newfoundland Memorial University of Newfoundland: Research Repository Corner Brook Canada
