Data were collected from three high school teachers, three refugee youth and two of their parents. The findings of this study reveal that many services on academic assistance and social activities for refugee youth are available in the high school and local communities. However, parent participants tend to depend entirely on local communities and high school teachers in terms of their children’s academic studies due to language barriers and low educational attainment. This study demonstrates that parents from diverse cultural backgrounds have different perceptions on what constitutes quality education than those of Canadian school teachers. More effort should be made to promote parent-teacher interaction by schools and local communities. Thesis Newfoundland Memorial University of Newfoundland: Research Repository Newfoundland
