The State of Maine and the New Navy, 1889-1893

This essay details the role of various sectors of Maine (politics, newspaper, individuals) in the establishment of the "new" Navy of the United State in the late 19th Century. This essay was the winner of the 1975 Maine Historical Society Essay Prize.
