The results of the investigation showed that neither farmed nor caught Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) in 2017-2018 were found to exceed the maximum levels for lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) contamination. The average lead (Pb) concentration found in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was 22.22%. higher and the average cadmium (Cd) concentration was 50% higher (p <0.05) than in Atlantic salmon caught. The average mercury (Hg) concentration detected in the caught Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) fillet samples was 51.72%. higher (p <0.05) than in farmed Atlantic salmon samples. About 5.78 percent of the EU Rapid Alert System of Food and Feed rapid alerts were on unsafe fish and fish products caused by microbial contamination in salmon products (Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon products). The EU Rapid Alert System of Food and Feed has not received a single notification for unsafe salmon or salmon products due to exceeding the permitted levels of heavy metals. Analyzing the cases of food counterfeiting in 2017-2018, 81 cases of counterfeiting of fish and fish products were examined. Cases of counterfeiting, where the violations were caused by the counterfeiting of salmonids, were detected only 6 times during 2017-2018 period.
