Turbot is a long living fish maturing at the age of 4 to 5 years. Its portional reproduction takes place in May-July, at a water temperature of 10-12 C near the bottom, which has the most significant impact on the shore migration intensity during the spawning. The ratio of males and females in the spawning schools is different every year and fluctuates from 1:1.3 to 1:1.8. Males dominate in the younger age groups, whereas among 12 year-olds only females are caught. The total fecundity of turbot is directly proportional to its body weight with fluctuations from 405 000 to 138 000. There is no direct dependence between the body length and total fecundity. The 6-7-year-old groups of females (33.9-40.5 cm) have the most significant impact on the population renovation with their highest female fecundity and the greatest amount of fat accumulated in the gonads.
