Loess and loess-derived sediments stretch along southern territories of the East and West Europe - former extraglacial zones of Pleistocene glaciation. From Lithuania they stretch through Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Northern France, Holland, Belgium and Great Britain. Research of these sediments is a problem of today. The author of this paper explored these sediments in Medininkai (Warta) glaciation territories in Lithuania some time ago, and now keeps up with modern research in this field. Broadly accepted combined methods were used for the investigation of the sediments. Results of lithological, geochemical and paleogeographical investigations are presented in this paper. Conclusions drawn from these investigations describe genesis of such loess and loess-derived sediments and bring to light the impact of different processes on these sediments in extraglacial zones during Pleistocene glaciation. The time of formation of these sediments and evolution of paleogeographical sequence during the Quaternary is established on the basis of the data about buried soils, accumulation of organics, and cryogenic structures.
