Both countries are seeking to stop Western countries dominance in the international arena. Bilateral cooperation results in power balancing of the United States and threatens the country's national security. However, cooperation between the states is complicated due to the disagreements over the legal status of the Northern Sea Route. Based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources, this thesis aims to reveal how the Sino – Russian strategic partnership contributes to power balancing in the Arctic region. Objectives of the thesis are: 1) to define the concept of strategic partnership in the context of Power balance theory; 2) to analyze Russia and China Arctic policies and their compatibility; 3) to analyze the implementation of the Russia's – China's strategic partnership in the Arctic. The research is based on qualitative research methods: method of scientific literature analysis; method of document content analysis; and the comparative method. The main conclusion is that the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China ensures increasing economic, military and political cooperation in the Arctic. It leads to the formation of a complex balance of power in the Arctic region. Bachelor Thesis Arctic Northern Sea Route LAEI VL (Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics Virtual Library) Arctic
