(Apicomplexa) Parasites Prevalence in Small Mammals The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of Hepatozoon sp. parasites in small mammals. Small mammals were live-trapped in 2016-2017 from August to October. Four habitats were selected for trapping – Unmanaged mesic grassland, Unmanaged mesic grassland overgrowing with forest trees, Non-riverine woodland with Betula, Populus tremula or Sorbus aucuparia, Ecotone of intensive unmixed crops and unmanaged mesic grassland. In total, 225 small mammals belonging to 7 species were trapped: Field Vole, Common Vole, Bank Vole, Striped Field Mouse, Yellow-necked Field Mouse, Eurasian Harvest Mouse, House Mouse. Hepatozoon sp. parasites were found in 27 specimen belonging to 3 species – Bank Vole, Common Vole and Yellow-necked Field Mouse. Bank vole was the most infected species, meantime, Hepatozoon sp. parasites were detected only in single individuals of the rest species. The extensity of Hepatozoon sp. parasites infection in small mammals community was 12%, and the extensity in bank voles reached 33.78% Average intensity of Hepatozoon sp. parasites infection was 0,71 gamonts /100 erythrocytes, the value of intensity fluctuated from 0,10 gamonts /100 erythrocytes to 4,65 gamonts /100 erythrocytes. Two genetic lineages were identified sequencing 18S rRNA fragment (685 bp). Master Thesis Common vole LAEI VL (Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics Virtual Library)
