Transport and logistics constitute a substantial part of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in our country’s budget every year. However, during the globalisation period, not the unique geographic position of a country, but the ability to offer the highest quality of service is important, according to Dr. Algirdas Šakalys, the Head of the Intermodal Transport and Logistics Competence Centre. Why are we proud of our harbour, which is not freezing up in winter? “After all, our neighbour’s ports did not freeze up, last year, too. It will be just ridiculous, when sooner or later they will launch the marine navigation in the Arctic,” – says Dr. Algirdas Šakalys, breaking many stereotypes of the transport system. – What I say is, that one harbour or any company is not the main object for competing.”
