Three documents about subsitutes for corn to be used in the North in times of famine: - the copy of a royal letter (from Charles XI), dated 17 June 1696, to the governors of the counties in Northern Sweden, about the journey of a student of medicine (Johan Ulrich Wertmüller), who has been sent out to instruct the poor people how to use certain roots, instead of corn, during the famine. - A paper, beginning 'Upstats på nåpra örter, som norr uth�', listing species of herbs that grow in the North and in case of need, may be used either as cabbage or as bread. - A paper beginning 'På föliande salt giora�' [In the following way the farmers make bread during famine, in the province of Osterbotten, Finland.] Description of bread made of bark, moss and bran.
