Summary: | 1985 View shows Meanwood Beck at Meanwoodside in Meanwood Park. Meanwoodside was originally the estate of a large house of the same name. The grounds feature woodland walks and parkland which were laid out by Edward Oates (grandfather of Capt. Lawrence Oates of the ill-fated Antartic expedition) during the 19th century. Leeds City Council bought the estate in 1954 and demolished the house, but the grounds remained largely as they were and are now a nature reserve, part of Meanwood Park and are a prominent feature of the Meanwood Valley Trail. |
