Description
Summary:1985 Looking along a bridge across Meanwood Beck at Meanwoodside in Meanwood Park. Meanwoodside was originally the grounds of a large house of the same name, owned by the Whalley family in the 1600s, then by the Oates family (who included Capt Lawrence Oates, famed for sacrificing himself during Scott's Antarctic expedition) and later by Col. Edwin Kitson-Clark. After the death of Kitson-Clark's widow in 1954, the house and grounds were purchased by Leeds City Council; the house was demolished but the grounds remained largely intact as laid out by Edward Oates and became an addition to Meanwood Park.
