Description
Summary:NewSETS was an R&D&I-project focusing on energy storage, especially seasonal sand-based heat storage and pumped hydro storage. NewSETS was led by project manager Flexens Oy Ab, with partners LUT University, Polar Night Energy Oy, and Pumped Hydro Storage Sweden AB (later acquired by SENS AB). NewSETS linked demonstrations, feasibility studies, market, and system analyses with communication efforts. The team produced high-level scientific journal papers for the storage types as well as easy-to-read white papers. The project showed various outcomes and recommendations regarding energy storage for different stakeholders. NewSETS aimed to establish a positive outlook among energy stakeholders and to make climate change mitigation efforts visible to everyone through skilful communication. The project hosted several events for the public, including seminars and workshops where key stakeholders could steer the direction and research questions of the project and communicate further research and development needs for future projects and public funding. The project was launched in the summer of 2021 and lasted for three years, until May 2024. NewSETS was funded under the ERA-NET SES MiCall19 (Joint Call19). Publishers version
