Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn View/Open Cheyletiella mites (Acarina) are ectoparasites that infest cats, dogs and rabbits in many countries of the world. Upon contact with infested animals the mites may temporarily produce grouped, erythematous macules on the skin of humans which rapidly develop a central, vesicular papule. These signs are most often found on the arms and the trunk. Recently these typical signs were observed on the skin of the members of two different Icelandic families which both kept a Persian cat. An examination for ectoparasites on the cats revealed that both were infested by Cheyletiellaparasitovorax. It is unknown how and when the parasite was transmitted to Iceland. Í nágrannalöndunum eru Cheyletiella áttfætlumaurar (Acarina) vel þekkt sníkjudýr á köttum, hundum og kanínum. Maurarnir geta tímabundiö farið á menn og valdið kláða og útbrotum, einkum á höndum og í kjöltu. Nýlega var tegundin Cheyletiella parasitovorax staðfest á tveimur persneskum heimilisköttum hér á landi. Leit var gerð að sníkjudýrinu eftir að dæmigerð útbrot komu fram á húð fólks sem hafði umgengist og handfjatlað kettina. Ekki er vitað hvenær né hvernig áttfætlumaurinn barst til landsins.
