The aim of the present study was to investigate the service available for women with pelvic pain during pregnancy in the capital city area of Reykjavík and evaluate the accessability of the service offered by the health care clinics. It was also investigated if there were any need for changes in the service and if so what changes. Methods: Qualitative research methods were used in this research with in-depth interviews and focus groups. Participants in face-to-face interviews were seven professionals working within the maternity service and two focus groups, one for pregnant women with pelvic pain and one with women who had experienced pelvic pain during pregnancy. Eight women participated in the focus groups. Results: The results showed the importance for women with pelvic pain of getting personal and group information early in pregnancy and the importance of reacting early to the complaints. There were different opinions on the examinations made by the physical therapists how they should be performed. Most of the interviewers recommended instructions from the midwifes and/or physical therapists and water gymnastics for women with moderate pelvic pain but physical therapy and water gymnastics if the pain had an impact on activity of daily life. There was good cooperation between doctors and midwifes but improvement was needed between physical therapists and the other professionals. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate a need for reorganizing the service available to women with pelvic pain during pregnancy with coordination and cooperation between the professionals kept in mind. Bakgrunnur: Um helmingur barnshafandi kvenna upplifa bakverki og/eða mjaðmagrindarverki einhvern hluta meðgöngutímabilsins.
