With the improvement of technological conditions of medical facilities of surface ships and submarines, the development of medical equipment, instruments, pharmacological preparations and treatment methods, the scope and type of medical care on ships and submarines expanded from self- and mutual assistance to qualified and specialized. The long-term presence of ships in the far sea zone and ocean zone in various geographical areas required organizational decisions to ensure the preservation of the health of military personnel throughout the entire period of navigation, guaranteed provision of qualified and specialized medical care in cases of acute diseases, emergencies and injuries. Объем и характер оказания медицинской помощи на Военно-Морском Флоте России, как и в других государствах мира, всегда определялись конкретными историческими условиями, развитием медицинской науки и техники, а также новых технологий, достижениями в надводном и подводном кораблестроении определенного периода, создающими непосредственные условия для оказания медицинской помощи в море. По мере улучшения технологических условий медицинских помещений надводных кораблей и подводных лодок, развития медицинской аппаратуры, инструментария, фармакологических препаратов и методик лечения расширялся объем и вид оказания медицинской помощи на кораблях и подводных лодках от само- и взаимопомощи до квалифицированной и специализированной.
