Description
Summary:Some phylogenetic ligaments of UlmusL. genus have been investigated based on the literary sources. According to the data of the GRIN, there are more than 30species of Ulmus genus in the world commonly found in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. Ten of theseoccur on the territory of Ukraine, in the temperate zone of the European part, in the North Caucasus, in Transbaikalia and in the Far East in broadleaf and coniferous-deciduous forests. On the banks of the rivers in the north of the growth zone, they enclose to the European dark coniferous taiga, and in the south– to the Steppe and Forest-steppe zones. As the typical contiguous species of mixed forests in Europe the following species of Ulmus genus, the most commonly encountered are as follows: U. laevis Pall, U. glabra Huds, U. suberosa Moench, U.elliptica K.Koch. In Asia, U. propinqua, U. laciniata (Trautv.) Mayr and U.pumila L.In North Americait is U. americana L.On the territory of Ukraine, there are seven indigenous speciesU. androssowii Litv., U. minor Mill., U glabra Huds, U.laciniata (Trautv.) Mayr, U. laevis Pall, U. macrocarpa Hance, U. pumilaL. and three introduced species: U. japonica (Rehd.) Sarg., U. americanaL., andU. densa Litw. It is revealed that the nomenclature of species of Ulmus genus is complex and confusing. Both folk and also Latin names cause difficulties. Thus, a lot of synonyms of Latin names have been discovered in the literary sources. The reason that complicates elm taxonomy is the proliferation of processes of natural hybridization within Ulmus genus. In the course of research we have discovered more than 15morphological features, which vary in the same direction in many species of Ulmus genus of varying degrees of kinship. The given history of taxonomy of Ulmus genus, which lasted for almost two centuries, demonstrates in detail the contradictions and imperfections of the phylogenetic relationships described in the early literature and the classifications of its taxonomic structures that are to be clarified on the ...
