Returning to New York after five months of traveling, observing, and speaking from Maine to Florida; from Florida to Texas to California; up through Oregon to Washington and back again to the North Atlantic seaboard—I find myself summing up the state of mind through the nation in one word: confusion. Confusion reigns in Washington as it reigns among people who cull their information from headlines and newscasts.
