The singularity of the station lies in the fact that it is placed in a large cutting that has been opened up above the lines thus breaking the monotony of the tunnel and allowing natural light lo illuminate the platforms which themselves can be seen from street level. A large boat-like structure covers the cutting resembling a Mediterranean market, a covered area that accommodates the concourse, public spaces and the transverse communications platform between the railway platforms at an intermediate leve1 between those and street level. The outstanding elements in the design of the station are the large full bore beams of variable section which describe the curvature of the glass roof and the infernal covering/lining of the boat, the concrete wall screens projecting from the service buildings, above those that these are supported by, and the southern station main entrance, walls of white concrete. La Nueva Estación de Ferrocarril de Castellón, se inserta dentro de la operación ferroviaria del Corredor Mediterráneo, que a su paso por la ciudad va soterrado en un tramo de casi 5 km, permitiendo la recualificación de la periferia oeste. La singularidad de la estación está en la apertura de un importante hueco sobre las vías que rompe la monótona secuencia del túnel haciendo que la luz llegue hasta los andenes, ofreciendo también una cierta visión de/desde la calle. Una gran nave cubre el hueco sobre el soterramiento al modo de una lonja mediterránea, plaza interior que aloja el vestíbulo, las zonas públicas y la plataforma transversal de comunicación entre andenes a una altura intermedia entre éstos y la calle.
