description In this article, the author asks the question: “Is the imagined North gendered?”. From a statistical analysis of the proportion of women among writers in Northern cultures (understood here as a circumpolar whole, and not strictly European) and from a statistical sketch from a body of works that form the imagined North, then taking into account recent studies, in particular those of Heidi Hansson, Amélie Nadeau and Renée Hulan who study the relationship to the northern territory from the women’s perspective, as well as some of the components of the imaginary of the North, he proposes a typology of the stereotypical figures of women in the works of this imaginary, while examining reversal movements, especially contemporary ones. He concludes that the North, despite some advances in our time, is governed by the rules of a system of representation oriented towards the enhancement of the male hero, a perspective that must therefore be taken into account in the analysis of the works that form the images of the North and Arctic.
