Two years of intensive survey show that it is now present in the southwestern part of the province, on southern Vancouver Island and in the Lower Fraser and Okanagan valleys. Although the pest has only been recorded on ornamental trees in urban areas and on nursery stock, there is a serious risk that it may attack ponderosa and lodgepole pines in natural-growing stands.
